The Louisiana Center for Safe Schools and Outreach Technology & Learning Solutions are offering VTRA™ Level I Trainings at no cost to schools and parishes during the 2026-27 school year.
What is VTRA™?
Violence Threat Risk Assessment is a trauma-informed threat assessment framework developed by CTIP that aims to identify and intervene in potential pathways to violence. VTRA™ is designed to enhance existing school, community, and law enforcement practice through common protocol and practice regarding assessment, prevention, and intervention for violence risk.
Who should attend?
Parish threat assessment team members, school safety and security teams, school counselors, principals, superintendents, special education law enforcement/SROs, Title IX coordinators, mental health professionals, social workers, nurses, school-based health professionals, and other community leaders connected to school safety efforts.
What does the training cover?
The VTRA Level I training is a two-day, in-person training, designed for teams to attend together. It is a combination of presentation and group time discussing case studies. Course content includes concepts such as:
- Connection between Threat Assessment and Risk Assessment
- Introduction to the Trauma-Violence Continuum
- Understanding the dynamics of violence
- How to manage issues beyond the threat
- Introduction to Traumatic Event Systems
The training is from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2027 and Wednesday, January 27, 2027. Coffee, tea, and lunch will be provided both days.
